The physical NFC peripheral features no protrusion of this sort and has the same iconography representing the NFC reader as the WiiU Gamepad. The New 3DS has its NFC Reader built . I believe the reasoning was to offer other payments methods in Japan, where they use NFC prepaid cards to pay different services, and to follow the craze that was .
