I bought one online and had it cut at the dealer and I physically relocated the RFID chip from the old key to the new key.
The RFID chip -- the guts can just be transferred from your other key, but you have to kind of know what you are doing to do this. (I thought I was breaking it -- but I just wasn't prying into the part of the key enough to get it out.)
Key Fob Chip. I recently swapped out both of my damaged '06 key housings for new ones. The old ones are long gone in the trash. I did not see a chip inside the factory cases but I guess they were in there because neither key will crank the truck now. On Honda the immobilizer uses a passive RFID chip that's built into the key. These are not DIY programmable. The chip is built into the key fob and the receiver antenna is inside a ring as part of the lock cylinder. I am wondering if the RFID chip inside the key can be recoded to match an existing key (cloned) or if it is fixed value and the only way is to have the car programmed to recognize each key/chip.
